We departed on the 13th from Dauphin Island under partly cloudy skies at 8:30 AM.
The wind was finally in a favorable direction, and we made good progress eastward. By nightfall we made it to Pensacola, Florida where were were able to take a closer look at the engine and take some much needed rest for a couple of days.
On the 15th we set sail West. We sailed directly to New Orleans. The weather was going to change. We all thought it best to get to New Orleans as soon as possible. This necessitated night sailing. Sailing at night presents an entirely different set of skills. Challenges included the darkness, sleep deprivation, and for the first time in our trip, rain. It was a long night, but we made it through without any significant problems.
A front blew through as we we entered The Rigolets. We were delayed at the train bridge and sat it out. After a few hours of motor-sailing we were back in New Orleans. The trip from Pensacola to New Orleans was 32 hours.
