We departed Ship Island at 8:30 AM under clear skies and strong ESE winds at 26 mph.
As we traveled South and South East we encountered stronger winds, up to 30 mph and seas 6 to 8 feet. Our course, the wind, and the seas would not allow us to reach our sampling points. Reluctantly we changed course and sailed North East to Gulfport.
We arrived in Gulfport around 3 PM. We spent the rest of the day at the Gulfport Yacht Club where we enjoyed air conditioning and showers. It was nice to have some down time. Later we decided to walk into town. There is a lot of development in downtown Gulfport. We had dinner at a small mom and pop restaurant. Surf and turf baby!
With current conditions of South-East winds tomorrow, we've decided to sail East from here, possibly to Dauphin Island, AL. We'll collect the samples at the end of our trip.
